Nearby signposts direct walkers onto hill and farmland footpaths and the peaceful surrounding area harks back to an age with a slower pace of life. The market town of Appleby (3 miles) boasts food shops a leisure centre a station on the scenic Settle to Carlisle railway and access to the Scotch Corner to Penrith trans-Pennine route. Ullswater is 16 miles.
