Arnside is a large, old fashioned estuary village, located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Shops line the promenade, including a post office, bakery, gift shops, a boutique, art gallery and cafes. There are also two pubs serving food and a convenience store. The Arnside Knott, a high flat rock rising to 520 feet, provides woodland walks and spectacular sea views; the estuary, notorious for its daily tidal bore, is popular for fishing; and the nearby Leighton Moss RSPB sanctuary is a haven for birdwatchers. There are sport fisheries within a short radius. Arnside is well serviced by public transport and is within easy driving distance of the attractions of both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
