Bird watchers, cyclists and lovers of the countryside, will also enjoy this cosy base to return to after a day out exploring this interesting region. This stunning rural area also abounds with history; Raby Castle, Bowes Museum and the ancient market town of Barnard Castle are all close by. A short drive takes you to the spectacular High Force waterfall, there is fishing on the River Tees and beautiful gardens at Eggleston Hall to visit. The whole of Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are also within driving distance for alternative days out. Bowes village has a pub serving food and a shop for everyday requirements. The cottage is located opposite the owners’ farmhouse in open countryside with small registered five caravan site.

For those who enjoy walking, the cottage nestles beside the Pennine Way leading to Tan Hill Inn on the Borders of North Yorkshire and Durham, noted for the highest pub at 1732 feet above sea level.
