Traveling around the Lake District

There are a number of ways to travel around the Lake District.

Boats

You will find plenty of boats trips available on most of the larger lakes which will take you on a tour of the lake.  Viewing the area from the water itself gives a unique perspective to this wonderful national park.

You can also hire a small boat (rowing, motor or sailing) at many locations in the area.

Bus

The area is well served with busses that are an ideal way to travel around the Lake District.  With narrow roads and expensive parking you will often find these are a better way to travel than using the car.

Car

Parking is pretty expensive in the Lake District and many of the more rural lake side roads are pretty narrow which can make them stressful to drive especially in the summer with the many coaches trying to use them.

Walking

There are literally hundreds of great walks in the Lake District to enjoy.  You will get access to the best views via walking as often the roads do not go very close to the best views.  If you are going hiking up the mountain its well worth registering your mobile phone on the 999 text system as it will allow you to get help even if you have a twig on your phone reception.

There are plenty of walking shops selling everything you need for walking around the lakes in many locations.

Bike

There are many places in the area to hire either an electric bike or pedal bike.  These can be a great way to travel around the area.
