There is an abundance of walking opportunities for even the most novice of hikers, straight from the door and all the attractions of Windermere, Bowness and Kendal are easily accessible by car within minutes.

Rowan Bank (Kendal) sleeps a maximum of 6 people.. Situated on the southernmost tip of the Lake District in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is the village of Arnside. The surrounding land is characterised by low limestone hills, marshy plains and deciduous woodlands, making this an interesting scenic backdrop for a walking or cycling holiday. Having retained many of the features from its past, this former fishing port still possesses a beautiful pier and port area with stunning views across the Kent Estuary. The 15th Century Peel Towers lie to the south of the village and were constructed to defend the settlement against the marauding Scots. Stunning limestone pavements as well as wonderful woodland walks through countryside alive with rare plants, trees and wildlife makes this a nature lover's paradise. In addition, the Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve is also just one mile away and presents excellent bird-watching opportunities.

Cycle hire is available in the village's famous bike shop, whilst the whole area offers great walking opportunities for both those already keen on the sport and total beginners. The bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are both close by and have always been popular with visitors, providing a range of great facilities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat excursions through the stunning landscape, the most well known of these being the ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. Along with its neighbours Kendal, Sedbergh and Appleby-in-Westmorland, this pretty town is surrounded by rolling hills and impressive scenery. Above the village is the Orton Scar, a limestone hill that was used to warn the village of Scottish raids. Orton's centre is home to a local pub serving food, a shop with post office, tea-rooms and the famous handmade chocolate shop. The attractive village green is surrounded by 17th and 18th Century cottages whilst there is a farmer’s market in the village square on the second Saturday of every month. Visitors can take a short drive to discover Haweswater, or visit the Lake District, the Eden Valley and the Yorkshire Dales.

For more specific amenities, Kirkby Lonsdale is just seven miles away whilst Kendal is only 12 miles and is often referred to as the gateway to the Lake District. The historic city of Lancaster and the seaside resorts of Morecombe and Blackpool are within easy driving distance, whilst the acclaimed RSPB wildfowl reserve of Leighton Moss is only four miles away. Morecombe Bay also offers great opportunities for wildlife spotting and is one of the reasons that the area is famous for birdwatching. Other locations with an hour's drive include the villages of Silverdale and Arnside, which overlook the beautiful Kent Estuary as well as the villages of Ingleton, Settle and Clapham.
