Situated in the picturesque village of Melmerby where the stream runs through the village green this detached sandstone cottage has been converted from a former hayloft to offer well equipped and comfortable accommodation in the tranquil and unspoilt Eden Valley. Alocin Cottage is tucked away in a quiet corner of a peaceful caravan park which nestles at the foot of the Pennine Hills, where excellent walking and cycling starts from the doorstep with the Coast to Coast cycle route passing through the village, or walk along the Eden River, to Long Meg Stone Circle. The Hartside Pass climbs a winding road from the village where the views are quite spectacular across the Solway Firth and Scotland from the peak, continue along the road to Alston with its cobbled streets, reputedly the highest market town in England, and full of its own unique charm. Melmerby has a pub serving traditional ales and meals, a renowned village bakery with organic produce and tea room, and the neighbouring villages also having a good choice of pubs. The village of Langwathby has a shop/PO, coffee shop/restaurant and the station is on the Settle-Carlisle railway line. The heart of the lakes and the splendour of the tranquil lakes are within a ½ hour drive with Hadrians Wall and the Scottish Borders within easy driving distance.

The owners have retained as much of the character as possible, with beamed ceilings and stone walls, then furnished and equipped it luxuriously to ensure the comfort of guests. The cottage is situated in the pretty village of Melmerby, at the foot of the Pennine Hills. Next door is the Shepherd's Inn with restaurant and bar and the renowned village bakery is across the road. The ground floor en suite bedroom is convenient for disabled or elderly guests.
