Set in its own grounds, which are bordered by the stream that gives the village its name, Saddleback Cottages has been lovingly transformed to create two comfortable barn conversions. Located in the quiet village of Broughton Beck, these beautifully presented and well-equipped cottages offer a peaceful retreat in a rural location. Ideal for walkers, the village of Broughton Beck is situated along the 70 mile Cumbrian Way, with plenty of lovely walks directly from the doorstep. The bustling market town of Ulverston, which has a good variety of individual shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, is just 3 miles away. Ulverston is famous for being the birthplace of comedian Stan Laurel and has the worlds only Laurel and Hardy Museum. Equally popular with locals as well as tourists, the town has a real community feel and hosts various events throughout the year.
Saddleback Cottages are close to the southern edge of the Lake District National Park and there are lots of great places to visit within easy driving distance. The popular village of Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, attracts visitors with its priory, racecourse and Michelin starred restaurant. A couple of miles from Cartmel is the Edwardian coastal town of Grange-over-Sands, where you can walk along the promenade or visit one of the local nature reserves. Mountain bikers will enjoy a visit to Grizedale Forest, 10 miles, which has plenty of tracks and trails, as well as Segways and the Go Ape treetop adventure. Families with children will enjoy South Lakes Zoo, 6 miles, Lakeland Motor Museum, 7 miles, Lakes Aquarium, 9 miles, and The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, 16 miles. Alternatively, why not take a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway or a leisurely boat cruise on a traditional steamer across Lake Windermere. Other places worth visiting include Coniston Water and Hawkshead. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
