The beautiful Dudden Valley, Coniston Water and Lake Windermere are within half an hour's drive, as well as South Lakes Animal Park at Dalton, Muncaster Castle and Gardens and Holker Hall and Garden. Visit attractions such as the popular owl sanctuary and the Ravenglass to Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway. Also visit the Roman Bath in the Eskdale Valley and the Hardknott Roman Fort. Lake Coniston, with its many walking and cycling routes, is also within easy reach. The reserves at Walney Island and Hodbarrow are great for bird-watching. Tennis courts are for hire in the village.
